Today I've had a bit of spare time so I decided to try out binaural beats. For my first attempt I found this on Youtube.
First, for those who don't know I'll give a little intro on Binaural beats. In 1839 Heirich Wilhelm dove discovered different frequencies of sound can have an affect on brainwaves. Some of these affects include increased relaxation and creativity. This occurs when two tones are played through stereo headphones at slightly different frequencies, one through each ear.
Various people from scientists to spiritual healers have experimented with this phenomenon. There have been claims it can produce a huge range of effects from curing depression to inducing drug like symptoms... and of course for fans of South Park - the brown noise!
Being the perve that I am, I decided to begin with an orgasm. Fully relaxed I laid down comfortably, headphones on, eyes closed and waited for the magic to happen! The first few minutes were uncomfortable at best. The sound is very annoying... a bit like the ringing you get after being at a club or gig all night... like that, but multiplied by 100!
So after a while I began to relax a little more, not listening to the sound, letting my thoughts drift off. Eventually the noise becomes less of a distraction and I'm able to fully relax, but then it stops! To be fair as it was my first attempt I started again from the beginning. This time I was able to relax sooner, but still this had absolutely no effect on me, other than a mild headache.
Perhaps this being a free recording on Youtube is not a good example. Maybe sound frequencies can have amazing affects upon the brain, certainly there are a lot of people out there who seem to think so - some even call themselves scientist (though from past experience I never fully trust claims made by those online). However this is not for me. I just did not enjoy this experience at all... So it's back to hypnosis I guess, unless someone can suggest something else worth trying.
